 Hodder on top again
This month there is a clear leader in the
publisher stakes in the UK with Hodder &
Stoughton taking the first four places in the
CLC chart and three placings in the Eden chart
too.
see the charts
Interestingly though, there are only two of
their titles appearing in both charts (The Shack
–no surprise there – and The Reason for God)
and we see the return of a classic in The Hiding
Place in the CLC chart too. Another returner is The
Blokes Bible which reappears in the Eden chart
along with Faith Like Potatoes.
Timothy Keller is the leading author this month with
three appearances covering two titles and there is a
definite ‘Valentine’s/love’ theme emerging with no
less than four marriage/relationships titles appearing
in the CLC chart. However this isn’t reflected in the
Eden chart (apart from The Love Dare) and, just two
months in, it is already it is beginning to emerge that
there is a difference between what is sold in stores
and what is selling on-line.
The Shack still holds sway in top spot, although
it is now down to number 6 in the ECPA chart and
90 Minutes in Heaven also continues to appear in
the best-seller lists almost three years after it was
published. But there is only one specifically Lent
title in either chart – Christ and the Chocolaterie
but maybe this will change in next month’s chart
as the late buyers begin to come through.
Unlike last month, the Eden chart is devoid of
fiction (apart from the number one) but has quite a
number of well-known titles in its listing. Does this
mean that on-line buyers are more inclined to go
for ‘names’ rather than browsers in bookshops?
Answers by email to the email address below. As
I suggested last month perhaps it’s a factor of
‘googling’ or linking recommendations – but you
might know better.
