 Matt Redman goes into orbit
It’s not every day you get to hear that your music has been played in space, but that’s the way Matt Redman’s weekend started on 22nd May.
On that day the Atlantis Space Shuttle was shaken out of sleep by the sounds of Matt’s song “Shine” from the album ‘Beautiful News’. Mission Specialist, Mike Good, had chosen it to be played, and it left Matt feeling nicely pleased: “I’m not usually so geekish about this kind of thing,” said Matt, “but being a bit of a space nut, this one is hugely encouraging to me!
“Songs sometimes travel around the world; but to have this worship song played as the wake-up music for the astronauts on the current space mission was really special to hear about.”
The Space Shuttle Atlantis was on a twelve-day mission continuing construction of the International Space Station.
You can watch and hear the NASA broadcast of the song with the conversation between Mike Good and Ground Control, Houston here
